Thinking Caps On! High Country MATHCOUNTS

Monday, February 13, 2017 - 11:38am

Joining an array of mathematics competitions available to K-12 students, the High Country MATHCOUNTS event held its first ever session on February 7 with teams from Watauga and Ashe Counties.  High Country MATHCOUNTS will become an annual event, bringing middle grades competitors from Alleghany, Ashe, Avery, Watauga, and Wilkes Counties to the Appalachian campus.

High Country MATHCOUNTS adds a middle grades opportunity to the competitions currently offered by the Department of Mathematical Sciences, including the Elevate Mathematics Contest for grades 4-6 and the NCCTM affiliated Mathematics Contest for high school students.  More information can be found at the Outreach page of the Department of Mathematical Sciences.
